Wellspring Retreat and Resource Center (cult recovery)

Founded by the late Dr. Paul Martin in 1986, Wellspring prides itself in providing counseling and care specifically designed to aid victims of coercion, exploitation, and abuse. Our treatment goal is to assist those who wish to return to emotional and psychological health after experiencing trauma.

After over 25 years of research into cults and high demand churches and hundreds of clients, we share a special empathy with spiritual abuse survivors.

Our office is located in Athens, Ohio, home to Ohio University. The foothills of the Appalachian Mountains provide a tranquility and refreshment for our clients. Athens offers an array of affordable lodging, restaurants, and social activities for clients to enjoy while receiving counseling at Wellspring.

Sweden

Hjälpkällan, Swedish NGO

Founded in 2006 by former sect members. Providing professional advice and peer support to formers, doubters and relatives. The organization has 70 volunteers with backgrounds in different cultic movements, some of them now working professionally as psychologists or counsellors. Help is offered online, in person or through support groups.

Hjälpkällan has run several three year long projects with governmental funding: Art and Exhibition Project for Second Generation Formers, High School Show Tour on how to Recognize and Resist Manipulation, and an educational program teaching MI (Motivational Interviewing) techniques for parents with children in cultic movements.

The organization also arranges education for volunteers, workshops for formers, professional consultation for teachers or social workers, and public speeches. In 2016 their conference “Life After Cults” was broadcasted in full length on national television in Sweden.
